See How You Compare. Anonymously.

Cross-Org Benchmarking gives your leadership team peer context for 10 key metrics - donor retention, fundraising efficiency, program outcomes, and more - without exposing any individual organization's data.

How It Works

Three steps to peer context

1

Your Admin Opts In

No organization is enrolled until an org admin turns participation on from the Benchmarks page or Settings, Organization. Choose which of the 10 metrics you contribute, and opt out again at any time.

2

Data Aggregates Nightly

Each night, TappHQ computes percentile benchmarks (25th, 50th, 75th, and average) for your peer group. If a group has fewer than 5 organizations, that metric is hidden - no individual data can be identified. Peer groups combine your NTEE category with annual budget range.

3

See Your Position

The Benchmarks dashboard shows where you land - bottom 25%, 25th-50th, 50th-75th, or top 25%. Enterprise plans export the full comparison as CSV for board reports. Pro+ orgs receive a quarterly summary email each quarter.

Anonymity Protection

If fewer than 5 organizations contribute to a peer group metric, that metric is hidden. No individual organization can be identified.

Opt-In, Admin Controlled

Participation is off until an org admin opts in. Opt out or exclude specific metrics anytime from Settings, Organization. Changes take effect on the next nightly update.

No Individual Identification

Peer organizations cannot see your metrics directly. Only the automated nightly process ever compiles the combined benchmarks, and your organization's individual values are never exposed.

Peer Groups

Compare apples to apples

Peer groups are defined by NTEE category and annual budget range. If your group doesn't have enough participants, we fall back to a broader group.

NTEE Category

26 categories from the National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities - Arts, Education, Environment, Health, Human Services, and more. Automatically extracted from your IRS EIN record.

Budget Range

Six ranges: under $100K, $100K-$500K, $500K-$1M, $1M-$5M, $5M-$10M, and over $10M. Set in your organization profile.

Always a Fair Comparison

If your NTEE + budget group is too small, we broaden the comparison - first to all nonprofits in your NTEE category, then to nonprofits of every size. We always use the most specific group that has enough anonymized data.
