Q: Where does the money go?

Straight to your organization's Stripe account. TappHQ uses Stripe Connect Express: you complete Stripe's hosted onboarding once, each donation settles into your connected account, and Stripe pays out to your bank on its normal schedule. TappHQ takes its platform fee at the time of the charge and holds none of your funds.

Q: What do we need to set up?

A paid TappHQ plan, a completed Stripe Connect onboarding, and one giving form. Giving forms take suggested amounts, custom amounts, monthly, quarterly, or annual recurring schedules, and honor or memorial designations, and each form gets its own public link you can place on your website or in an email. How many active forms you can run depends on your plan; archived forms do not count.

Q: How do we issue a refund?

In the Stripe Express dashboard for your connected account. TappHQ records each donation as pending, completed, or failed and does not process refunds itself, so a refund is made where the charge lives, in Stripe. When a gift is refunded, only the platform fee is returned, in proportion to the amount refunded; Stripe keeps its card processing fee on a refund, so that part is not returned.

Q: What happens to recurring gifts if we downgrade or cancel our plan?

They keep running. Recurring donations live on your Stripe account, not on your TappHQ subscription, so a downgrade does not cancel a donor's monthly gift. An organization that drops to the Free plan while still accepting donations is moved to a higher platform fee rate until it is back on a paid plan, and cannot create new giving forms while on Free.
