Free AI Readiness Assessment for Nonprofits

A 6-pillar scoring model that answers the question your board is asking: “Are we ready for AI?” We'll email you a link to create your free TappHQ account and begin your assessment. Your score and basic-tier report are ready the moment you finish.

Why this assessment works

Built specifically for nonprofits - not generic corporate AI maturity models. Deterministic scoring means reproducible, defensible results.

6-Pillar Model

Technology, Data, Operations, Growth, Communications, and Brand. Each pillar is weighted by relevance to your organization type so the score reflects what matters most for your mission.

Deterministic Scoring

No black-box LLM grading. Your answers produce a repeatable score you can re-run a quarter later and compare apples-to-apples. Board-defensible and funder-ready.

Free Score + Full Report

The score itself is free forever. Your free TappHQ account includes the full basic-tier report - technology landscape, 6-pillar detail, Foundation recommendations, blind spots, and a 90-day action plan.

The 6 pillars we assess

Each pillar gets scored 0 to 100 based on your answers. Weighting adjusts automatically for nonprofits vs. government vs. education organizations.

  1. 1
    Technology

Your infrastructure, tool stack, and technical debt. Do you have the systems in place for AI to plug into, or is integration the bottleneck?

  2. 2
    Data

Governance, quality, and accessibility of your organizational data. AI is only as good as the data it reads. This pillar surfaces data blind spots before they derail an implementation.

  3. 3
    Operations

Process maturity, documentation discipline, and workflow codification. AI automates documented workflows faster than undocumented ones - by a lot.

  4. 4
    Growth

Fundraising sophistication, donor intelligence, and revenue diversification. How ready is your growth engine to absorb AI-driven prospect research, segmentation, and donor-journey orchestration?

  5. 5
    Communications

Audience engagement, content ops, and multi-channel reach. AI can scale your comms output 5x - if your comms strategy is ready to deploy it.

  6. 6
    Brand

External positioning, thought leadership, and mission clarity. A strong brand makes AI-generated content resonate; a weak brand makes it feel generic.

What AI readiness actually consists of

AI readiness is not whether the organization has bought an AI tool. It is whether the things an AI tool depends on are in place: data it can trust, processes it can follow, infrastructure it can run on, and people who catch it when it is wrong. An organization with a chat assistant and no data governance policy is less ready than one with neither the assistant nor the gap.

A readiness assessment breaks that into pillars scored separately, because the weak pillar decides the outcome. In this model the six are Technology, Data, Operations, Growth, Communications, and Brand, weighted toward the first three because that is where most implementations stall.

What each pillar is asking

  • Technology. Is there cloud infrastructure for tools to connect to, someone responsible for IT, and a cybersecurity policy? AI adoption without security protections adds risk rather than capacity.
  • Data. Is there a data governance policy, and does the sensitivity of the data you hold match the rules around it? Regulated or highly sensitive data with no policy is the most serious gap the assessment flags.
  • Operations. Are processes documented? AI can automate a written workflow. It cannot automate one that lives in a staff member's head.
  • Growth. Is there a CRM? Donor insight and personalization read from a system of record, and without one there is nothing to read.
  • Communications. Is email marketing in place? It is the main channel AI-assisted content runs through.
  • Brand. Are there brand guidelines? Without them, generated content drifts off-voice and reads as generic.

What the score is for

The score is deterministic: the same answers produce the same number, so it can be re-run in a quarter and compared. The report names blind spots by severity and orders recommendations Foundation first, then Growth, then Transformation, because Growth work built on a missing foundation gets undone.
